Learnit is an educational widget which allows signed users to conveniently rote learn new vocabulary from a foreign language. More exclusively, it allows users to place a daily list of ten words on a variety of frequently visited webpages which will appear each time they visit those pages. The learning technique is the same methodology as brand exposure leading to brand recall, used throughout the Advertising Industry.

Ten words a day are taken from a list of the thousand most common English words. The Learnit widget is suitable for those who are starting to learn a language, or those who want to revise their vocabulary, rather than more advanced learners, who are not catered for.

The idea was conceived on the 31st January 2008. The next beta release of the Learnit widget will include sound, tests, grammatical information and a recording function, however these features are not currently available[1].

The beta launch of the Learnit widget met with mixed responses from the highly critical [2] to the enthusiastic [3]. Learnit lists was included as a language project by UNESCO in 2008, International Year Of Languages.[4].
