Do we have a source that verifies that the English name is "Register" over the French "Registres"? My impression was that the English translation would be "Letters" not "Register". --Elonka 23:34, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

First of all I am wrong about the Latin word: the form is registrum not register. As I understand papal registers, they are big ledgers in which important correspondence was recorded. Sometimes a complete letter is copied verbatim, sometimes only a summary. Guzman says in the article cited here, "The Register of Pope Innocent IV contains a letter..."
