Lavangen is a municipality in the county of Troms, Norway.
Lavangen was separated from Ibestad January 1, 1907. (Lavangen was merged with Salangen in the period January 1, 1964 - January 1, 1977.)
The municipality is situated around the Lavangen fjord, and also includes the inland valley of Spansdalen. The municipal centre is located at Tennevoll.

The municipality is named after the fjord (Norse Laufangr). The first element is lauf n 'leaf' (here in the sense 'birchwood'), the last element is angr m 'fjord'.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1987). It shows three leaves of birch.
