Latvian literature

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Latvian literature refers to the body of works written by Latvian authors. Latvian literature started with folk poetry. This was lost due to the loss of political independence in the 13th century. Modern literature in Latvia was relatively new, having started in the nineteenth century. The national epic, Lacplesis, published in 1888 was written by Andrejs Pumpurs.[1]
