Latics is a short form of the suffix Athletic. As such it refers to
- Oldham Athletic A.F.C. in Football League One
- Wigan Athletic F.C. in the FA Premier League
The name was originally used by Oldham Athletic at the start of the twentieth century. It was later adopted by Wigan in the 1970s. When the two clubs meet in any competition is it known as "The Latics Derby".
