Laser Mission is a 1990 action movie starring the late Brandon Lee and Ernest Borgnine. Sometimes goes under the title of Soldier of Fortune.
[edit] Plot
The plot concerns a mercenary named Michael Gold (Lee) who is sent to convince Dr. Braun (Borgnine) - a Laser specialist - to defect to the United States before the KGB acquires him. His expertise is meant to create a powerful laser whose power is drawn from diamonds, the largest of which was stolen by the KGB. The laser is supposed to create a nuclear weapon. After the doctor is captured, Gold has to enlist the help of Dr. Braun's daughter Alissa (Debi Monahan), (latter it becomes known Alissa, is not the daughter) before the climactic final battle in the desert with Col. Kalishnakov (Graham Clarke). An interesting point to note is, little time is spend on the laser / nuclear weapon. Alissa and Michael become romantically involved and at one point have sexual intercourse. The film was sent into the public domain and is available by numerous distributors at low costs.
