I moved this article to a B. Overall it is well written, it stayed focused , it addresses the major aspects of the topic, it provides in-line citations from reliable sources, and has neutral point of view. The following needs to be done to move it to GA.
-
- (a) Lengthen the lead section to include a better summary of the important aspects of the article's topic. Right now all it says is Larry Smith is a football coach and this is this record. Maybe add some highlights of his career.
- (b) Expand all sections. In my opinion it already meets the Good Article criteria for being "broad in its coverage", but falls short of the Featured article criteria for "comprehensiveness." I think the early life and playing career is a little weak and is missing some important info. A couple examples would be:
-
- Which three sports did he play in high school ?
- Who was his coach at Bowling Green? I think it was Hall of Famer Doyt Perry but not sure.
- (c) Illustrated, where possible with an appropriate images.
- (d) State the obvious. Some facts in the article which may be obvious to you, are not necessarily obvious to every reader. Example: The article does not say he played football at BG only he played end.

[edit] Arizona
The section should probably include a mention of Arizona's upset of top-ranked USC in (I think) 1980. MisfitToys (talk) 01:29, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Good call. I got it confused with the 1978 upset on USC by Arizona State (which caused the split title that year between USC/Alabama). I checked' USC's media guide and the game you're looking for is in 1981check the season box on the in-text page 94. How weird it didn't come up in his obits. I'll see if I can't also find a contemporary news item. --Bobak (talk) 19:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Assessment
Article lacks content regarding subject's personal life during his career, all of which seems to be included in one short paragraph. It should probably be integrated in to the relevant sections and expanded. But, without it, article still qualifies as a Start. John Carter (talk) 21:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- With respect, I believe that the submitter is looking for an improvement from Start. Apart from the problem you highlighted, I know that his death is recent, but there is absolutely nothing in the article about this, bar the date of death - the article therefore appears incomplete for a non-living person. May I suggest this be considered for further rating when information has been added to that effect? Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 23:08, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
