Lars Peter Engström
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lars Peter Engström is a character in the short story Three Versions of Judas (Tres versiones de Judas) by the Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. He is only mentioned in one line of the story as a theologian who accused the protagonist, Nils Runeberg, of "ignoring the hypostatic union." The story takes place in Sweden in 1908. It is quite possible that Engström may have actually existed.
Daniel Balderston lists him as "Swedish theologian" on page 49 in his work, The Literary Universe of Jorge Luis Borges: An Index to References and Allusions to Persons, Titles, and Places in His Writings'. Bibliographies and Indexes in World Literature, Num. 9. New York: Greenwood Press, 1986.
