[edit] Appearance

What is this comment based on?

The LAK's appearance is much closer to the U.S. dollar rather than other currencies of Southeast Asia

I have some kip banknotes and eg. the 5000K note is small, white and brown, with nothing at all in common with the US dollar notes as far as I can see. Jpatokal 05:33, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Royal Kip

This section states that the Royal Kip was introduced in 1957, but then says the only year of issue for the coins was 1952. Is this an error, or were the coins actually piastre cents? Nik42 18:51, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

They are piaster cents, only other coins issued was dated 1980 with the current series of banknotes. Enlil Ninlil 03:51, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ₭N vs KN

Officially this is the new kip, hence the N in KN or ₭N. I don't have any evidence as regards whether people write ₭, ₭N or even KN, however. Someone who knows would be welcome to edit the article as necessary I'm sure.--Ajhoughton 16:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I never saw either of these (KN or ₭N) when I was in Lao. I only saw Kip, 1000 Kip or for high prices USD but I never had to use USD, kip was always acceptedLimbo-Messiah (talk) 17:11, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lowest banknote

Enlil Ninlil 03:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for doing all these research. 500 kip is about 5 US cents, which seems plausible. In Vietnam, the smallest coin is 200 dong, which about 1.2 US cents. But things are often priced at multiples of 1000 dong (6.2 US cents). --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 03:47, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Description of the banknotes http://everything2.com/index.pl?node=Kip Enlil Ninlil 05:42, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Is that enough info to change the banknotes to rarely and most common? Enlil Ninlil 05:42, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

If everything2 is right, combined with the earlier sources, it seems to me that 100 and 50,000 should be "rarely", and 500 to 20,000 should be frequently used. But keep in mind that everything2 is open just like wiki. At this time, it has "Money can be so damn boring... blah blah blah" in its content. By the way, I can't find the Lao page on hostelbookers. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 06:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I've been to Lao (Lao poeple like to call their country Lao and not Laos), and 500 kip is the lowest note I came across. Water was 1500 kip or 1000 kip depending on where you were. Limbo-Messiah (talk) 17:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
