This is, in fact, incorrect.

In Germany, policing is the duty of the State, not the Federal Government.

Thus, all "standard" police is State police.

e.g. The Police of Cologne is a subdivision of the Police of Northrine - Westphalia.

State Police is divided in the City or County Polices, but you will never see a policeman in Germany wear City or County Badges, only the Badge of their State is worn, and policemen can be transferred anywhere within their state.

State Police is divided into the

Schutzpolizei The "standard" police, that patrols the Streets, answers to emergency calls, does traffic policing etc.

Kriminalpolizei The "Kripo" is a non-uniform wearing Branch of the State police, responsible for investigations. e.g. if a car is broken into, the Schupo will drive out, secure the car, notify the owner etc, and then hand it over to Kripo for investigation.

Einsatzhundertschaften (EHU) / Bereitschaftspolizei Uniformed part of the LaPo that is used when manpower is required.

Landeskriminalamt a sort of State FBI

Also the Federal Government has a Police, namely the

Bundeskriminalamt a sort of FBI, responsible for nationwide criminal incidents, and also investigation of criminal incidents overseas.

The Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Patrol) is at present being transformed into a sort of Federal Police, with as yet unclear objectives.

I would suggest that you update the article with your concerns. -Husnock 16:15, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Schutzpolizei

The link from the article on the Landespolizei to the Schutzpolizei links to the Ordnungspolizei. Since this last body was an organ of the Nazi state and clearly the current Schupos have no connection to this there is a need to ceate a current article on the Schupos. [edit] Landespolizei (Liechtenstein)

I've just added a ref to the Landespolizei in Liechtenstein at State_police. The article here is biased and should obviously reflect a "worldwide" (*lol*) view on different Landespolizei - or someone should rename it to Landespolizei (Germany).

If you ask me, this article ist about de:Länderpolizei (the Landespolizei is a part of it). Scriberius 07:26, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suspects crossing state borders

Can members of one state's polizei pursue suspects across state borders? Do they have any or all the powers of investigation and arrest in another state? Waerloeg 02:35, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need clarification on "Bestandteil"

I have translated the word Bestandteil, which refers to the Schupo, Kripo etc. (or at least it does on the Schleswig-Holstein police webpages), as section? Is this the best word to use? Please go ahead and correct it if it isn't.

One thing that is not clear from the article, and for which I have not been able to find an answer, is whether the various Bestandteile are bureaucracies in their own right (i.e. at state level) or whether each Praesidium has its own Schupo, Kripo etc.

Also, in looking at police recruitment web pages, I get the impression that each section has its own career path. This is in contrast to the situation in many parts of the world in which, for instance, moving out of uniform into plain clothes is a not uncommon career move. Is this correct?

Do German police eat doughnuts?

Please do what you will with these questions. I probably won't be able to deal with them myself as I am only passing through. ireneshusband (talk) 22:47, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I have removed that link, as it doesn't provide any useful information; it seems to be about Search engine optimization. The site has a link to Amazon for a book about police school from the author, but there seems to be no further information on the site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.72.140.25 (talk) 21:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
