[edit] Anti-Rabbinic agenda
<quote>The opinion was prevalent among the Rabbis that the temple of Onias was situated at Alexandria—an error that is repeated by all the chroniclers of the Middle Ages. This temple is also sometimes confounded with the Samaritan temple on Mount Gerizim.[18]</quote> This is pure nonsense. 210.84.40.154 10:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- It is "pure nonsense" to say that pointing out that the rabbis were incorrect about the location of the temple (an error well-documented and sourced) is part of an "agenda". Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 13:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- There were not because they never said it was IN Alexandria. Many Rishonim point out that it was NEAR Alexandria. The Talmud itself in some places makes this very clear. (E.g. the mention in Bavli Megillah.) It is pure nonsense because the only people pushing such an agenda are people who blinding ignoring any other mentions in the Talmud. 203.206.229.45 15:19, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- The information comes directly from the Jewish Encyclopedia, hardly a repository for anti-Talmudic propaganda. I do not have the reference in Megillah directly available to me at the moment. However, many prominent rabbis, including Berel Wein, do appear to believe that Onias' temple was in Alexandria. [1] [2] [3]Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 15:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Greek place name "’Ονείον"?
Can someone provide support for thinking that the Greek name is "’Ονείον"? I looked at the citation and all that's there is the genitive, ’Ονίου. So it doesn't look like it should have the diphthong. I couldn't find the place name in Liddell-Scott-Jones, so I'm not sure what the lexical form or gender are. Also, does anyone know how to create smooth and rough breathing? I don't see it down there in the list of characters. 128.186.238.250 17:33, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
