[edit] Abilities

Similar to Medusa's Mystic Eyes, Lancer possesses a curse known as Mystic Face. Like most curses, if the person has a high enough magical resistance or invulnerability, it can be overcome. The curse, embodied as a mark on Lancer's face, causes women to become attracted to him.

Presumbly, Lancer possesses the agility and speed of other Lancer-class Servants, like Cú Chulainn.

[edit] Noble Phantasms

  • Gáe Buidhe: Golden Rose of Mortality
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
A cursed spear that renders injuries unrecoverable. As damage from this spear lowers the upper limit of the target's HP, no matter what healing spell or regeneration ability is used, the target can only be healed up to the "point where the wound was borne". Dispelling of the effects is impossible and the only way to be rid of the curse is to destroy Gáe Buidhe or its master, Diarmuid.
  • Gáe Dearg : Crimson Rose of Exorcism
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
A long spear that negates mystical defense. Armor crafted by mystical energy has no effect towards the attack of this spear. If equipment provided with mystical enforcement or other enchantment is hit against Gáe Dearg, the enchantment will not activate. This is a "Noble Phantasm killer" that in truth, can only be defended against by physical means. However, it can not undo contracts and curses made in the past nor the effects of already completed sorcery.

[edit] True Identity

His true identity is Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, the son of Donn, foster son of Aengus Óg and a warrior of the Fianna. Known as Diarmuid of the Love Spot, the appellation resulted from an encounter with Gráinne, a woman who caused a magical love spot to appear on his head. Any woman who looked upon his face would instantly fall in love with him.

Gráinne, the bride of Fionn mac Cumhail, fell in love with Diarmuid when she saw him in the wedding party and subsequently laid a geis upon him so he would run off with her. Their flight from Fionn mac Cumhail was aided by Aengus Óg, who eventually intercedes on their behalf such that Fionn pardons Diarmuid and the couple is allowed to live in peace. The pair settle in Kerry and produce five children.

Years later, Diarmuid is mortally injured when a giant boar gores him on the heath of Benn Ghulbain. Because Fionn, who invited him on the hunt, did not let Diarmuid drink the water from his hands, which had the power to heal, Diarmuid dies.

[edit] Role

Lancer is summoned by Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi in the 4th Holy Grail War, who originally intended to summon Rider-class Servant, Iskander. Because his pupil Waver Velvet stole his artifact, Kayneth summoned Diarmuid Ua Duibhne in order to participate in the war. While Kayneth holds the command spells for Lancer, the energy to materialize the Servant is maintained by Sola-Ui, Kayneth's fiancée.

During a mêlée fight between the Servants, he strikes Saber with Gáe Buidhe and attempts to finish her off. Their fight is interrupted by Iskander. In the ensuing chaos, Berserker turns his attention to Saber, who is saved by Lancer. Kayneth attempts to use a command spell to force his Servant into assisting Berserker to finish off Saber, but ends up retreating when Iskander interferes again by forcing Berserker to retreat and threatening Kayneth to join Saber to finish off Lancer.

Lancer appears again in Kayneth's base of operations on the 32nd floor of the Fuyuki Hyatt Hotel, where he is criticized by Kayneth for holding back against Saber. In turn, Sola-Ui berates Kayneth for not choosing to have Lancer work with Saber to defeat Berserker and accuses him for being a coward by hiding himself. Lancer forces her to apologizes by stating he will not allow her to reproach his Master any longer. Kayneth becomes disturbed with Sola-Ui's apparent infatuation with Lancer. Before the issue can be addressed, the hotel is attacked by Kiritsugu Emiya and Maiya Hisau, who are aiming to destroy the hotel's foundation.

Lancer plays a key role in defeating Caster when the Servant summons a monster to wreak havoc on Fuyuki City. He willing destroys Gáe Buidhe in order to remove the enchantment inhibiting Saber's abilities so that she can destroy the monster while he defeats Caster. Saber and Irisviel von Einzbern would later confront Lancer to finish his duel with Saber, though they are unaware that Saber's Master, Kiritsugu Emiya, had already formulated a plan to eliminate both Lancer and his Master. Lancer and Saber's battle ends when Kiritsugu forces Kayneth to use a command seal on Lancer; Lancer is forced to comply and kills himself, as ordered by his Master.
