Cobra

Geographic Location/ Habitat: The cobra lives in India, southern China, Malaysia, the Philippines, and southern Asia. The cobra is also known to live in altitudes above 6,500 feet. It is a great swimmer, so the cobra will most commonly live in an area with lakes or rivers. Aside from forest destruction, the cobras have no chance of going extinct.

Eating/ Food: The cobra is a carnivorous reptile. They feed on live animals, which they will kill with their venomous bite. The cobra is the most venomous snake, and can kill and elephant in four hours with only one bite. Cobras will eat small animals, rodents, and sometimes other snakes.

Life Expectancy and Enemies/ Predators: The life expectancy of a cobra is around twenty years in the wild. Although, thousands of cobras are killed a day, both by animals and people. The top predator of the cobra is the mongoose. Against the mongoose’s speed and cunning, the snake’s strike is no match. In a fight, the mongoose will latch itself onto the skin under the flap of skin around the cobra’s neck.

Reproductive System: When male and female cobras mate, the female can lay between 20-40 eggs in a litter. The female will build a nest on the ground to lay her eggs in. Then, the female cobra will guard the nest with her female instincts. The incubation time for the cobras to hatch is from 60- 90 days.
