[edit] Name

To be merged with the article Amarnath was actually his given name. According to Lala Amarnath : His Life & Times, by his son Rajinder Amarnath:

Amarnath was born on September 11, 1911 into a Brahmin family of a businessman father, Nanak Chand. .. The family originally hailed from Talban area in Punjab and its ancestors came from the lineage of Aathwanshi Bharadwaj Brahmins .. The newborn was initially named Lal Chand by his father, ...(but his mother) renamed her son Amarnath, 'Amar' meaning immortal and 'Nath', lord.

From this it is fairly obvious that Bhardwaj was his surname, Amarnath his given name and Nana(i)k, his middle name in the conventional sense. Early in his career, he added 'Lala' to his name to avoid being confused with another cricketing Amarnath. Lala was his petname at home. Thus Lala and Amarnath, the names by which he is known to the cricketing world are both his given names. Tintin Talk 15:33, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
