Embarcadero Technologies is an American software company founded in October 1993 with just a single database tool for Sybase DBAs — Rapid SQL (released in December the same year). It currently produces tools for database design, development and management, for platforms including Oracle, Microsoft, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase and MySQL.

In April 2000, Embarcadero Technologies was listed on NASDAQ. In November the same year, the company acquires GDPro, an UML design solution provider. In October 2005, a data security solution provider, Ambeo, was acquired. Two years later, in June 2007, Thoma Cressey Bravo bought Embarcadero and it became a private company. Wayne Williams was appointed chief executive officer of Embarcadero Technologies in 2007.

The company headquarters are in San Francisco with other offices in Toronto, Melbourne, Munich, Maidenhead (United Kingdom) and Iaşi (Romania). The company currently has an annual revenue of $US 60 million and has more than 270 employees.

Since its foundation, Embarcadero Technologies has released several database-related products, such as: Rapid SQL (in December 1993), DBArtisan (in April 1994), ER/Studio (in March 1996), Change Manager (in March 1999), Performance Center (in March 2001), DT/Studio (in December 2001), Schema Examiner (in October 2006). It currently offers database tools that share a cross-platform foundation and cover the database life cycle.
