[edit] Syphilitic lesions??

I have "fact"-tagged this phrase: "a chain worn by women in France and Italy in the 16th century to hide the syphilitic lesions". I think the thing is that one woman wore the fashionable headband to hide such lesions and someone misinterpreted a source. This "factoid" is several places on the net but it's possible they are all drawing on this article. This needs further research. - PKM 02:42, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
