Title says Mastadons sp while the description is mammoths I agree with the title except I like mastodons better.

I think a better description would be:

Mastodon sinks into a tar pit while a female and calf look on.

(If mastodons had similar societies to modern day elephants the male would not be an intrical part of the family group.)
