The developments of communications satellite in Indonesia

Indonesia consists of many islands. To preserve the national integration, Indonesia realized that communication had important role. To reach the nationwide, Indonesia needs communications satellite to relay information. Indonesia had launched PALAPA satellite in 1976. These communications satellite was only organized by government organization besides the Indosat enterprise which served international communication with Intelsat system. Now the number of communications satellite organizer has increased and government licenses using VSAT service to several organizers. In 1970, just TVRI and RRI could use the transponders satellite. But now more than 10 private broadcast stations use the domestic transponder capacities to relay their programs.
