I saw Leon Goosens play live twice. The second time in Colne lancashire in about 1978,he would have been about 80 years old.I got his autograph on a record of him playing superbly the soliloquy the middle movement of what would have been a concerto by Elgar. He was the doyen the doyen of oboists, his playing of the middle movement of the Marcello concerto towers above any other performance.HE was one of the old school, and sadly we will never see his like again,

                  Yours sincerely,
                      Wilf Slater.
