Cultural note: In practice, Bundesländer occurs in usage more often in Germany than in Austria,
and common usages in both countries are contrary to the official constitutional construct.
Both forms are found as German loan words in English.

Länder (Singular Land) refers to one or any of:
- Colloquially used for States of Austria, the technically correct German language name for the federal states of Austria is Bundesländer, which is hardly used in Austria.
- Official (plural) title for the various Federal States of Germany under the German constitution, the Grundgesetz,
which explicitly names the states simply as 'Land' (plural 'Länder'), but which contrarily, colloquially are frequently referred to as Bundesländer—the term used in the Third Reich.
