The Kytos Project is the first of a series of books in The Rathing Chronicles, a science fiction series created by British author, John von Kesmark.
The action takes place in 2070 when Britain and its human population are ruled by the brutal Rathings. For all their ruthlessness and cunning, these part rat part human clones are happy to let humans get on with their lives – just as long, that is, as they don’t step out of line.
In Cornwall at the end of the summer holidays and, on little more than a whim, Jack and his friends decide to explore the forbidden cave that leads to Rumrunner Cove, the headquarters of the local Rathing Overlord. Very quickly the boys find themselves caught up in a bloody war between the Rathings and the bird-like Magars – another man-animal hybrid produced by the Kytos Project.
Taken prisoner, the friends are forced to undertake a secret mission to rescue the Rathings’ most venerated object, Shibboleth, which has been stolen by the Magars. If they succeed, they win their freedom; if they fail, Jack is doomed to an excruciating death at the hands of the Rathings’ evil executioner...
