Kusshii (クッシー?) is the name of a lake monster said to be living in Hokkaidō's Lake Kussharo. The naming convention is likely to be borrowed from that of Loch Ness's Nessie. The name Kusshii may also have been taken from the popular Japanese myth of Susano and Orochi, in which Susano, a man banished from heaven seeks to rescue an elderly couples' daughter named Kusshii in return for her hand in marriage. The tale is from the Shinto religion which was once the dominant religion in Japan.
