Kubilay was born and raised in the village of Akyar Koyu in 1972 before migrating with his family to Australia in 1982. Akyar Koyu is a little village near the city of Osmaniye; its population is around 1750. The original village was located about 3km above the current location, near the mountain before an earthquake destroyed the old village in around late1960's. The government built a new village for the people which located 5km from Osmaniye.
