Coordinates: 12°32′N 78°14′E / 12.53, 78.23 Krishnagiri (கிரிஷ்ணகிரி) is a municipal city and the headquarters of Krishnagiri District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

It is a part of Kongu Nadu region of Tamilnadu ruled by the ancient Western Ganga Dynasty.See also Gounder (caste) for history.

Mango is cultivated as the main crop and its considered as the birth place for Mangoes.

Krishnagiri is located at 12.53° N 78.23° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 631 metres (2070 feet).

Out of all the fruits mango cultivation occupies first place in Krishnagiri district with 300.17 km² for its cultivation. it produces 300,000 tonnes annually. Out of mango production from Krishnagiri district 60,000 tonnes of ‘Thothapuri’ and ‘Alphonso’ breeds go to the pulp processing units.

There are 25 processing units of fruit pulp in private sector in Krishnagiri district. 35,000 tonnes of fruit juice is extracted every year.30,000 to 40,000 people are employed in mango cultivation. Apart from these there are 150 private mango nursery units producing saplings in and around ‘Santur‘ near krishnagiri. The district exports mango based products worth Rs.1,000 million.

Under the horticulture development program, the government owned horticulture farms are functioning .Through these units about 3 lakhs of fruit saplings are produced and distributed under different schemes. The surplus produce is sold in other districts such as Salem, Chennai, Coimbatore and neighboring sates like Karnataka, Maharashtra , Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

As of 2001 India census[2], Krishnagiri had a population of 65,024. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Krishnagiri has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 66%. In Krishnagiri, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The main language spoken in Krishnagiri is Tamil. The dialect closely resembles Tamil spoken in the Arcot districts of Tamil Nadu even though Krishnagiri is a part of Kongu Nadu

Krishnagiri is the gateway to Bangalore from TamilNadu, Kerala and Puducherry

Three National Highways originates from Krishnagiri.

Also the Longest National Highway of India - NH 7 (Varanasi - Kanyakumari) Passes thro' Krishnagiri.

Krishnagiri is well connected by road to all cities in Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Tirupathi, Pondicherry, chitoor, Shimoga, Davengere, Mysore, Puttaparthi and Cities in Kerala.

The nearest railway Junction is Jolarpet (60 km).

The nearest Airport is International Airport, Bangalore (91 km)

Krishnagiri has a dam called KRP dam(Krishnagiri Reservoir project) stated in 1960's by the then chief minister Kamaraj. chinna thamadarapalli is small villege but not good road problem please
