The Krikkit Song was composed and performed by Philip Pope for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Tertiary Phase, Fit the Fifteenth, featured on An Informational Visit and Arthur Diverted, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4, 5 October 2004.
The song was written as part of the informational background for the people of Krikkit, to circuitously portray them as a peace-loving yet insular race of singer-songwriters, with no notion of any Universe beyond their world, given their singular solar system (the Krikkit system had but one planet, Krikkit) surrounded by a dust cloud - due to the dust cloud, the sky above Krikkit was either illuminated by a sun, or completely black). The song's lyrics provided clues to Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect that the people of Krikkit could never see any neighbouring planets or stars, and the odd effects that may have on them.[1]
[edit] Lyrics
The lyrics to the ""Krikkit Song"" are:
Chorus 1 Our lovely world's so lovely And everything’s so nice And everyone’s so happy Beneath the ink-black skies!
Verse She is the only one for me I’m under her spell I can’t resist We walked hand in hand above the grass Then in the dark we kissed
Chorus 2 Our lovely world's so lovely See how the flowers grow It's such a shame my dog died He loved those flowers so!
Middle 8 It's so much fun working on the farm It fills my heart and soul with pride My wife and kids waiting safe from harm Makes me feel so warm inside
Chorus Our lovely world's so lovely And everything’s so nice And everyone’s so happy Beneath the ink-black skies![1]
