Krasnoyarsk Metro System is a future subway system in the city of Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The system is currently under construction with a planned opening in 2010.
[edit] System
Construction began on the system in 1995. However, after three years of work and 500 meters of tunneling, a lack of funds slowed construction considerably. By 2004, new tunneling equipment had been purchased, but another funding cut stopped progress again.
By 2005, the Federal Government stepped in to help the project along. 144 million rubles were allocated by Moscow which would help advance the tunnels another 250 meters. 2006 brought another 230 million rubles to finish the remaining 400 meters between the first two stations and start 100 meters towards the third station.
While the total plan calls for a total of three lines and 30 stations, only 5.2 km of the system and three stations are planned to open in 2010. A fourth station is being considered and, if implemented, would push the opening date to 2012.
In 2014, two more stations on Line 1 are expected to open bringing the system to a total of five (or six) stations and 8.5 km of length. At that point, it is estimate that the total cost would be 19 billion rubles.
