The picture and the article are not connected, I think. The picture is labelled in the State Dept. as being in the Democratic Republic of Congo (former Zaire) and mentions a village named after a region there. The article refers to the Republic of Congo. I am trying to find out where the river in the picture is.

The Kwilu River flows from south to north, is a tributary of the Kasai River which in turn, feeds into the Congo River. Kikwit, the economic center of the Bandundu Province is located on the banks of the Kwilu, around 600 km east of Kinshasa.
