[edit] Relevancy of an article about the constructed language Kotava
To argue by advance with respect to those which when they do not know something decree that the phenomenon does not exist and to prevent any sudden deletion of the article, as that occurred yet in 2005, here a fast summary of the relevant arguments to the creation of this article. Below:
- Enuca ke teliz icde Kotava vegedunava

[edit] Kotava, living language
Kotava is one of the rare constructed languages which are other thing that an intellectual exercise and which counts some real speakers. This criterion appears essential to me, even if the language is little known in the english speaking world or in the "conlangers’" world. The Kotava speakers, around 50 fluent, prefer to spend their time to speak and communicate in their language rather than talking endless about the qualities of their language. And if many Kotava speakers are in Africa, that strengthens also its originality.

[edit] Recognized language
Kotava has an official ISO 639 code. Only 15 other constructed languages also profit from such a recognition. Whereas many conlangs present in en.wp like Wenedyk, Románico, Verdurian, Enochian or Toki Pona are not even recognized. It would be incomprehensible that an article about Kotava would be deleted, or then only Esperanto should be kept.
I would add that Kotava takes part of the rare constructed languages localized and deployed within MediaWiki software of WM.

- All an ISO 639-3 code means is that you applied for one and that SIL agreed that it was a real language. ISO 639-3 was created so that all the languages that couldn't meet the requirements for ISO 639-2 ([1]) could have a code. Almost certainly, those other languages could have a code if someone asked for one. This is hugely different from languages like Occidental, Interlingua, Klingon, Volapuk, etc. that have ISO 639-2 because someone actually had a collection of material in that language and needed to catalog it.--Prosfilaes (talk) 19:17, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sources and links
The sites indicated in links are all real websites, with real contents. They show the reality of the Kotava community. For example, the articles of the Kotava encyclopaedia (>2000 articles) like:
- Nok civilization supports easily the comparison with the equivalent article in EN.WP
- Geography of Tanzania is much more complete than that of EN.WP
- Charlotte Brontë is an article of quality about a writer
etc.
Many translations of known works also exist ("The Little Prince" of Saint Exupéry, "Scapin's deceits" of Molière, etc), as well as original works such as for example the collective work:
- 100 vunda ke Tamava 100 legends of the world, 157 p.
- Se klita is gluyasiki
- Koto bazeno internetxo tir ageltafo xo, dem ageltaf cek. Danedison va geltruca ke Kotavusikeem. Tulon, teliz yo ke Kotava xadola (>2000 teliz) :

Congratulations on your return! After adding you to the list of constructed languages, I intended to write the article myself. Your language is a work of art that deserves representation in wikipedia. I especially sympathize with you in that my own language - lingua franca nova - was recently threatened with deletion.

- Well, I'm certainly not arguing that the article should be removed or something. Frankly, at this point I believe an article about Kotava is warranted indeed. But in its current form, the article doesn't look too objective; I'd even say it looks pretty much like a propaganda pamphlet at this point. Since I personally hate all those ugly tags in Wikipedia articles, I'm not going to add one here. But I think it would be A Good Thing if George and others made some friendly but objective/third-party edits to the article. —IJzeren Jan Uszkiełtu? 19:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
