I have some questions:
(1) Are there indeed many wats in Kota Bharu proper? I thought the wats were outside the city, in the direction of Tumpat.
(2) Is it indeed the case that the Japanese landed at Kota Bharu? I thought they landed at Tumpat.

I believe the correct spelling should be Kota Bahru, although there are numerous variants in common use.

The official spelling is Kota Bharu, for whatever reason. This is also reflected in the Jawi spelling. See the Malay version for confirmation. Groogle (talk) 05:08, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I am a dweller in Kota Bharu for 19 years since I was born. Hence, I have plausible and credible evidence to support the following statements I would make:
1. Most of the wats are indeed in Tumpat, not Kota Bharu
2. The Japanese Army landed on Pantai Cahaya Bulan, a beach which faces South China Sea, in Kota Bharu
3. The correct name is truly Kota Bharu, it is so in the mailing addresses

- I don't dispute the name. Maybe you can cite a source for the Japanese landing as original research is not allowed in Wikipedia. I don't mind if you change the sentence about wats in Tumpat.Wai Hong 15:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
The Japanese Army landed on Pantai Cinta Berahi, which is known as Pantai Cahaya Bulan for the time being (Malaysian Army 2006). Here is the link to the related article on the official website of Malaysian Army, but it is in Malay: [1]

In his book "The Japanese Invasion of Kelantan in 1941", published by Perbadanan Muzium Negeri Kelantan in 1991, reprinted 1994, author Mike Wrigglesworth states that they landed at Pantai Sabak, shortly after midnight local time on 8 December 1941, and backs up the claim with a map. This agrees with what all local people have told me. The Pantai Chinta Berahi (later Pantai Cahaya Bulan) does not seem to have been involved, though it appears that a Pantai Badang (if I can read the handwritten map), between the other two beaches, was also involved.

Kota Lama is the name of the old palace (Istana Kota Lama) on the Kelantan river, not far from the centre of Kota Bharu. I've never heard of a Kota Lama at Pantai Sabak, and the Malay Wikipedia doesn't mention it either. The reference in the page also doesn't mention it, so I suppose they fixed their page.
