Kotaro Oshio

Kotaro Oshio (押尾コータロー Oshio Kōtarō?) is an acoustic guitarist from Japan. Born in Osaka, on February 1, 1968, he is best known for his work on the steel string guitar.

[edit] Oshio's music
Oshio's music is classified within various categories including pop, new age, and jazz. His style has drawn comparisons with other highly regarded musicians such as Michael Hedges. Oshio's musical technique includes fingerpicking, slap harmonics, and precise strumming.
While his albums include mostly original material, Oshio is also well known for his covers and movie soundtracks. His unique skill in interpretation and arrangement can be heard in tracks such as "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" from his album "Starting Point".

Oshio released his first indie record in December, 1999. After gaining a fanbase in Osaka, he released a second indie album in March, 2001. Oshio gained international recognition during the Montreaux Jazz Festival in July 2002 during his jam session with B.B. King. Also in July 2002, Oshio released his first major record label album "Starting Point". He returned to perform at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2003 and 2004.
His new album, COLOR of LIFE was released on November 29th, 2006 in Japan.
