The Korea Baptist Convention is a Baptist denominational body in the Republic of Korea. Its beginnings hark back to 1949, when the Church of Christ in East Asia made contact with Southern Baptists in the United States. Baptists in Korea have experienced remarkable growth, and in 2006 numbered almost 800,000 in 2700 congregations.[citation needed]
