Kontiolahti

Kontiolahti is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 12,103 (2003) and covers an area of 1,029.84 km² of which 247.92 km² is water. The population density is 11.8 inhabitants per km².

The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Kontiolax" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Kontiolahti" also in Swedish.[1]
