[edit] Childhood and Education
The daughter of Albanian immigrants, Konstantina (Bequary) was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. She worked in her parent's restaurant while attending public school.
She worked her way through college and law school, graduating from Simmons College and the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Konnie Lukes is an attorney who has been practicing law for over 30 years and has her own law office in Worcester, Massachusetts specializing in Family law, Divorce, Probate and Real Estate law.

Mrs. Lukes has served as a public official in Worcester for decades, initially as the first Chair of the Worcester City Manager's Commission on the Status of Women. She also formerly served as a Commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, appointed by Governor Michael Dukakis.
Konstantina Lukes was first elected to the Worcester School Committee in 1980, eventually serving for four terms and holding the position of Vice Chairman of the School Committee. She was elected to the Worcester City Council as a Councilor at Large in 1990, eventually being elected to the position of Vice Chairman of the Worcester City Council from 2004-2006.
Mrs. Lukes was sworn in as Mayor of the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, in January, 2007 and finished the term of Timothy Murray who became Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. In January, 2008, she became the first popularly elected female Mayor in the City of Worcester, Massachusetts.
Throughout her career as an elected official, Konnie Lukes has fought for fiscal discipline, lower taxes, open government and a populist approach to public service.

Konnie Lukes has been married to Dr. James Lukes for over 35 years. They have one son, Peter, who is also an attorney in Worcester, Massachusetts.
