Kodai Idi Kuppusamy Mudaliar was a freedom fighter from Vellore. He was a great orator with thunderous voice which got him the nick name kodai idi which means thunderstorm in summer He was a great freedom fighter who motivated the people of vellore and arcot through his spellbinding speechs and terukoothu (street dramas) to join in the freedom fight against the british.In those days people as far from arcot and ranipet used to come to vellore kottai maidanam {fort ground}to listen to his speech. After independence he was directly nominated to rajyasabha. After his demise recognizing his services a govt school was started on his name in vellore . - kodaidi kuppuswamy mudaliar school.
