Keyhole Markup Language Keyhole Markup Language (KML) is an XML-based language schema for expressing geographic annotation and visualization on existing or future Web-based, two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers. The KML Validator assists KML authors in producing high quality KML possible by noting where the KML files can be improved. The KML Validator supports OGC® KML 2.2 and implements the Abstract Test Suite (ATS) defined in the OGC® KML 2.2 Specification. The KML Validator provides guidance on how to fix any identified issues with the files.

The recent submission of the KML 2.2 Specification to the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) for consensus. On April 14, 2008, the OGC Approved KML as Open Standard.

Some features for the KML Validator include:

  • Accepts both KML files and KMZ archives.
  • A KML file may be submitted for validation by URI or File Upload.
  • Performs strict validation and returns a report.
  • Validation of a submitted file against an abstract test suite for the OGC® KML 2.2 Specification.
  • Groups the error messages as errors, recommendations or suggestions.
