Kivi Sotamaa (born 1971) is a Finnish designer and principal of Sotamaa Design Ltd. Sotamaa holds a Masters degree from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and in addition studied architecture briefly at Helsinki University of Technology and at the Royal College of Art in London. He is currently visiting professor at UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design [1] and Assistant Professor of Architecture at Ohio State University [2]. In 2006 Sotamaa was visiting professor at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst, Institut für Architektur in Vienna[3]. Until 2006 he was one of the principals of Ocean North.[4]
Sotamaa’s creative work has been exhibited by MoMA, the Wexner Center for the Arts, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Fondazione Trussardi[5] and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa.[6] His work has been featured in the New York Times[7], Phaidon’s 10×10 Architects, New Scandinavian Design, Forum Sweden[8], AD, Praxis, Kenhiku Bunka, L’Arca and Domus. His most recent projects include the PS1 Young Architect Award finalist entry, which was displayed at MoMA and an apartment building in Columbus, Ohio.
