[edit] Summary
"Kivrim" means "bent" according to Peter Collingwood in his book "The Technique of Tablet Weaving." His book included an image but no weaving instructions so, through trial and error, I determined a threading and card-turning sequence. Cparkhill1730 17:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Creating this pattern
"W" is white, "L" is light green and "D" is dark green. Feel free to substitute colors of your own choosing.
Like Ramshorn, Kivrim is woven by dividing the cards (16) into groups, and turning them in different directions. Every four turns, when all the cards are back to home position, the directions are changed according to sequence.
Depending upon how you manipulate the groups of cards, this threading combination can produce a wide variety of startling and beautiful effects. I have found it worthwhile to experiment. Through trial-and-error, I devised a weaving sequence for the above pattern. Begin by dividing the 16 cards into groups of four adjacent cards each (Cards 1-4; 5-8; 9-12; 13-16). These groups will be referred to as Groups 1,2,3 and 4, counting from left to right.
- Step 1: Groups 1, 3 and 4 four turns forwards; Group 2 four turns backwards.
- Step 2: All groups four turns forwards.
- Step 3: Groups 1 and 3 four turns backwards; Groups 2 and 4 four turns forwards.
- Step 4: All groups four turns backwards.
- Step 5: Groups 1, 2 and 4 four turns backwards; Group 3 four turns forwards.
As you weave the above series of steps, the meander or "running dog" will move diagonally across your weave from left to right. By counting the groups of four cards from right to left, you can use the above directions to send the meander back the other way.
