Okay, I know it's pretty mean to have 2 user subpgs, but this one is different. For a start, I won't include a rules page (but the same rules apply) and I will print a sponsered artical every week about things I like. Like now: Spiderwick From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spiderwick is a series of children's books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The story takes place in New England, United States, where nine-year-old twins Simon and Jared and their older sister Mallory have moved to the decrepit Spiderwick Estate. They discover a field guide to Faeries, and quickly realize that the estate is infested with them. Some of the faeries are benign or even friendly, but many more of them are pesky or downright malicious. They discover many new creatures also.

Characters

Human

Major Human Characters Jared Grace - Nine years old, short-tempered and adventurous, Jared is the one who discovers Arthur Spiderwick's illustrated field guide in a secret room of the house. While the books follow the adventures of all three of the Grace children, the point of view is his. Simon Grace - Jared's twin brother, gentle in nature and fond of animals; he befriends a wounded Griffin. Mallory Grace - Thirteen years old, Mallory likes the sport of fencing and is on her school team, a skill which comes in handy defending her and her brothers from some of magical creatures found around the Spiderwick Estate. Mallory has many adventures with her brothers including the defeat of Mulgarath, which prevented him from taking over the world.

[edit] Minor Human Characters Lucinda Spiderwick - Lucinda is the daughter of Arthur Spiderwick and the cousin of Helen Grace's mother, making her the Grace children's great aunt. When her father disappeared and her sister left home she was in charge of the house. Soon fairies came and tried to get her to give them the guide. She didn't know where it was, so the fairies attacked her, breaking her back. Her sister thought she was hurting herself and she was put in a clinic for the insane. She can only eat faerie food because of a cruel joke played by the faeries. A few friendly sprites now take care of her by giving her faerie food while she is in the asylum. Arthur Spiderwick- The creator of the field guide to faeries. He disappeared after trying to fool the elves. Helen Grace - The mother of the Grace children. Richard Grace - Helen Grace's former husband until a divorce. Later Mulgarath tries to disguise as him.

Faeries

Thimbletack - the house's brownie. A brownie is something that does the housework. But if it is angry, it becomes a boggart, a mischievous creature. Mulgarath - an evil shape-shifting ogre, the villain. The Not-Jared Grace - a fake Jared who is Mulgarath as we find out in The Ironwood Tree. River Troll - only appears in Book 2: The Seeing Stone. He is just a plain troll that lives underneath local rivers. Jared makes a deal with the Troll so he won't eat them: let them cross and the 'tasty' goblins will follow. The Korting - the ruler of the dwarves. In The Ironwood Tree, he tricks Jared and Simon into being held prisoner. It seems that he was good but was deceived into being evil. Hogsqueal - one of Mulgarath's goblins that is actually a hobgoblin. Hogsqueal is an anti-hero. As goblins don't have teeth, they substitute broken glass for them; Hogsqueal replaces them for children's teeth, claiming that he's the Tooth Faery. He helps out the children, but usually to his own advantage. He never calls the kids by name, but instead uses odd insults. In the movie he has an insatiable appetite for birds, and in the final battle Mulgarath transforms into a raven, who is promptly eaten by Hogsqueal.
