Talk:Kish cypher

[edit] This article needs to be renamed
This article needs to be renamed, because what it describes is not a cipher. We could rename it to "Kish protocol". But I don't want to do that because this scheme isn't called "the Kish protocol". As far as I know it doesn't have a name at all. It's simply a protocol invented by Kish. What's the procedure for Wikipedia articles about things that don't have names?
The article also needs to be rewritten to be less credulous, but that's a separate issue. -- BenRG (talk) 00:33, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

- I have inserted a reference to demonstrate that it is called "Kish's cypher" or the "Kish cypher." The word cipher (cypher) is widespread in the literature on Kish's method. It is not for us to argue with the literature, we can only report the naming that is already used. In wave theory, for example, propagation constant is not a constant, and so appears to be a misnomer...but it is not Wikipedia's job to go renaming scientific terms. Perhaps someone can add an explanation to the article why the word "cipher" (cypher) was used in this context, either rightly or wrongly?
