Talk:King Kong (franchise)

While I appreciate the good hard work that User:Judgesurreal777 has been doing on this page, it seems redundant to the main King Kong page, which is about the character and all his various incarnations, not just the first film. As such I think merging this page into that one, and carrying over any non-duplicated info would serve Wikipedia better.oknazevad (talk) 21:06, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Simply put, no. This is about the franchise that revolves around the story, and all the media created about that story. The King Kong article is an article about the character King Kong, as in the giant ape and its appearances. Totally different. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

But there is very little on this page that isn't also on that one. Maybe info should be moved from there to here, and that article more focused, but that would leave very little on that page. Truthfully, Kong isn't Godzilla, there's very little about the character outside of his one, main story. One page on him is all that's really needed, linking to each individual film, which have separate pages as separate creative works. But Kong has never really been a "franchise" in the sense of Godzilla, James Bond or other characters that have been continuously running for decades.oknazevad (talk) 16:07, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Just because it is not one of the largest franchises like Godzilla or Bond doesn't mean it isn't one. It is a smaller franchise with books, video games, many movies, and large cultural impact. That equals a franchise, even if it is perhaps a smaller one than some others. Also, there is no duplication as the two articles cover different things; this will summarize the Kong movies and other media, the article on King Kong will cover his appearances. If there becomes a problem of duplication, it may be wise to merged a paragraph about the character of King Kong into this article and redirect that article here if King Kong does not have enough notability on his own, but Kong has been around for over 70 years and they are still doing King Kong stuff, so its a franchise/series.
