King's Wood School is a Secondary school in Harold Hill near Romford. It is a mixed school of non-denominational religion. The School's Headmaster is Mrs Marian Spinks, who has been the Headmaster since January 2008, ending the 2 year reign of Mrs Delia Mulholland.

King's wood school was under special measures but with the hard work of staff and students the school came out of special measures and recently became a specialist technology college

Mrs Marian Spinks Headteacher

Marian Spinks returned to King's Wood School as Headteacher in January 2008 after being deputy headteacher here for a number of years and from September 2007-December 2007 she was seconded to HIAS at the Local Authority.

Mrs Spinks is very keen and determined to showcase the Technology Status recently acquired by the school and will be working closely with links in the local community to publicise this venture and to raise the profile of the school.


Mr. Brian Mayes Assistant Headteacher

Mr Mayes has been at Kings Wood School for over 30 years. He is famous for his designer ties and his love of Ipswich Town Football Team.

Mr Mayes is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and is a highly valued member of the team.


Mr Alan Warren Head of Humanities

Mr Warren has worked at King's Wood School since Easter 1979. He originally came to King's Wood as Head of Science. Mr Warren now teaches Religious Studies to all our students.


Mrs Annette Hazell Teacher of Key Stage 4 ICT & Head of Year 10

Mrs Hazell teaches KS4 ICT and is also Head of Year 10. Mrs Hazell is also our Child Protection Officer. She has worked at Kings Wood School for over 19 years now and King's Wood School is really lucky to have her!


Mrs Susan Mayes Assistant Headteacher

Mrs Mayes has made a huge impact on our school by introducing projects such as the Student Council and Student Voice. She is a member of Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and is a very dedicated member of staff well respected by both pupils and colleagues alike.


Mr Jose Castro Head of Modern Foreign Language

Mr Castro is Head of our MFL Department. He originally comes from Spain. He has worked here at King's Wood School since Sept 2004. Mr Castro teaches Spanish to all our students and he is a dedicated member of staff.


Mrs Elizabeth Cornish Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator

Mrs Cornish is a fantatsic member of the team. She has been working at the school for several years and has paid an important part in building a special needs department which is growing from strengh to strengh.


Mr Scott McGuinness Deputy Headteacher.

Mr Scott McGuinness is one of the two school's deputy headteachers. He has responsibility for curriculum and timetabling, he is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and he also teaches maths.


Mrs Shelley Walshe School Manager

Mrs Walshe is the Office and Cover Manager of King's Wood School. Shelley has worked at King's Wood School since April 2006. She has worked in education for twelve years. She has four children and enjoys the challenges King's Wood brings.

Ms Carol Crouch Examinations Officer

Carol started work at King's Wood School in 2004.

Mrs Crouch is an extremely busy person as she is not just the school's Examinations Officer but she is also the Educational Visits Co-ordinator (EVC), the co-ordinator for Year 10 Work Experience Programme, organises careers interviews for Year 11 pupils and also helps keep the school's website up to date.

She organises all the public exams, such as GCSEs, SATs etc and also all internal exams such as mock GCSE exams.

In October 2007 Mrs Crouch was appointed Staff Governor to the school and is she is also on the Finance & General Purposes Committee.

Carol is a dedicated member of the school team and can always be relied upon as she is an extremely organised person and is the person people turn to in a crisis!

Mrs Debbie Harper Parent Governor

Debbie Harper has recently joined the governing body in the summer and has agreed to be a link governor for Humanties.

Carol has just joined the team this term and is looking forward to being part of the new improvements within the school.

Mrs Caroline O'Brien Staff Governor

Caroline works within the school as a home support worker. This position means that she will liase with the school and parents to solve any issues or difficulties our children may have.


Ms Julie Pocock PR & Fundrasing Officer

Julie Pocock is a bubbly and energetic member of the school's staff. She joined King's Wood in May 2006 her role to help raise the profile of the school and to raise much needed funds to help move the school foward.

Between January and September 2007, Julie spearheaded campagins that raised crucial funding to enable us to apply for Technology Status and also at the start of the autumn term, Julie's hard work resulted in the school obtaining a brand new mini-bus.

Julie is a character! She has lots of enthusiasm, ALWAYS has a smile on her face, she is an extremely hard working member of staff, is highly respected by all her colleagues and above all she loves a challenge!

[edit] Head Boy and Head Girl

The current head boy and head girl are Jake Morris and Angela James. So far under there reign they been successful in helping the school and are excellent ambassadors and role models to other students.

In year 11 selected students can become prefects. Each prefect has duties to follow and have to act as role models for the school. This year has had the best set of prefects the school have seen. It conists of:

The school council at King's wood is one of the best in Havering, with the school council bringing in numerous changes. Two members from each form class are selected to be in the Year council, Once every month, the year council takes place, two members from each year council then go to the main council meeting with every other year and the main members. The main council members are:

King's Wood School is known for its success in sports. Especially in basketball in which they are 2nd in the borough. The school has recently came joint first in the borough for outdoor hockey and 2nd in the borough for indoor hockey.
