Founded in 1979, The King's University College is a denominational college previously affiliated with the public sector, The Province of Alberta allowed King's University College to operate as a private degree-granting university in the 1980s. [1]

Students can enrol in over 300 courses in 20 disciplines, with 12 major concentration areas. The King's University College offers three-year and four-year Bachelor degrees in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and commerce, as well as a two-year Bachelor of Education after-degree.

King's has an active intercollegiate athletics program, competing in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference in men's and women's basketball, volleyball and outdoor soccer. Club sports include hockey and indoor soccer.

King’s buildings have floor area of 21,000 square metres on a site of 80,000 square metres. Facilities include: 34 classrooms, eight science labs, three computer labs, a greenhouse, fine arts studios, a performance hall with pipe organ, 1,200 m² library, 900 m² gymnasium, spacious cafeteria, Students' Association center, drama space, bookstore, conference rooms, atrium assembly space, outdoor sports fields, and two student residences.

Kings University College is recognised as having the best educational program in the province of Alberta, the 'runner up' being the Concordia University College of Alberta, also in Edmonton, Alberta.[citation needed]
