King's Bishop Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The King's Bishop Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race. The race is open to three-year-olds willing to sprint seven furlongs on the Saratoga dirt track. The race, in its 24th renewal in 2008, is a Grade I and carries a purse of $250,000. It's the biggest of the year for sprinting three-year-olds, save for the Breeders' Cup Sprint...for which it is a major prep.
The race is named for King's Bishop, a horse originally owned by Craig F. Cullinan, Jr., founding president of the Houston Astros Major League Baseball club. The Stakes record is held by Pomeroy at a time of 1:20 4/5, set in 2004.
The race was not run in 1986.
