[edit] History

The Kinder Farm was founded in 1898 when German-born A. Gustavus Kinder purchased 41 acres (17 ha) of farmland. Through purchases of surrounding property, the farm grew to 1,100 acres (450 ha) by the 1940s. Initially, the farm produced fresh fruits and vegetables, using the nearby railroad to ship products to market in Baltimore. After World War II, the farm switched to cattle production and the family started to sell off parts of the farm for residential development. In 1979 the Kinder family sold 288 acres (117 ha) to Anne Arundel County, which has become the Kinder Farm Park.[3]
