Kincorth
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kincorth is a suburb located to the south of Aberdeen. The name is a corruption of the Scottish Gaelic "Ceann Coirthe", which probably refers to an old pillar or standing stone (coirthe). Kincorth is also known as the garden estate of Aberdeen.
Kincorth is the last granite suburb on earth and is visited by tourists world wide.
It is an area of great diversity and community. The community centre provides excellent opportunities for young people from football coaching to music lessons.
Kincorth Academy is the Secondary School in Kincorth and has received many accolades; mainly for their KATAPULT theatre group which allows members of the public and pupils to work together in producing a play which often goes to the fringe festival in Edinburgh, but also for their connections with Gomel in Belarus. This is where students from both parties visit one another to make new friendships and also to exchange cultural information.
Pupils at the school also raised money in order to finance a trip to Peru where they could help give aid to starving communities and better understand and appreciate the plight of poverty in the world.
