[edit] The William List

This is a rather silly list of scientific papers which uphold the following characteristica:

  1. contains the wording "Linux Operating system"
  2. does not contain the wording "GNU/Linux"
  3. is in the category: Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics
  4. is authored in 2007 or 2008
  5. one of the authors has the name "William" (first, middle or last name)
  6. is not a patent.

This corresponds to this Google scholar search [1] (patents are sorted out manually).

NB: If you make the same search with #2 changed to "must contain" .. then the result is 0 papers. This doesn't show that GNU/Linux is never used. In fact it is easy to demonstrate with similar searches that GNU/Linux will be used by a minority of papers (around 1 in 75 or so). Here the search criteria was merely so narrow that the minority didn't show.

(the reason for the William name is a slight towards a certain other William in the computer business ;)
