At every meeting with her Eric gradually falls in love with her. But Neil Gordan wants Kelmeny to himself. He gets to know about these meetings and burn up with jealousy with Eric. One day he asks Kilmeny to meet her aunt and uncle. kilmeny says she cant and Eric says if she doesnt he will never meet her again. Thinking this is true Kilmeny weeps with grief. Unable to help himself Eric kisses her trembling mouth. thus the gates of womanhood opened for Kilmeny. she falls in love with Eric. Eric proposes to her but she doesnt agree. Not because she doesnt love him but because she thinks her muteness is a huge failier. bt finally in the end miraculously on this storys dramatic climax Kilmeny speaks.
