[edit] Summary

Cover of India by Hiroh Kikai, at reduced size. Design ©Misuzu Shobou, incorporating a photograph © Hiroh Kikai. Size deliberately reduced. -- Hoary 09:12, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Technical note

Looking at the top of the cover as scanned, one might think that something went seriously wrong in the scanning process, or that something is seriously wrong with the scanner. But in fact the title "India" is printed on the dust cover in such a way that it does look as if it is out of focus. -- Hoary 06:04, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use within Hiroh Kikai

This image, Kikai-india.jpg, is being linked from Hiroh Kikai; though the picture is subject to copyright I (Hoary) think it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. it is a low resolution copy of a book cover;
  2. it does not in any way limit the rights or impede the efforts of the copyright owners to claim ownership of or derive income from the book or incorporated photograph;
  3. copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the artwork in any saleable form;
  4. it shows a book that is described in the text and is particularly significant within Kikai's career as the first and largest of the three volumes (so far) of his photographs of India. -- Hoary 09:30, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
