Khattiya Sawasdipol aka Sae Dang helped the United States spy on Vietnam and later joined the secret war against Laos. Khattiya disguised himself as a moslem in order to infiltrate rebel groups in Aceh. He has written several best-sellers in Thailand about his life in a series called Kom Sae Dang. Appearing in talk shows in Thailand and the US Khattiya has built up a cult of followers and almost celebrity status. Khattiya has come into conflict with the chief of police Seri Temiyavet during the investigation of a gambling den and has taken a 600 million Thai Baht libel suit against the him for defamation.
