Hey who has put this map, it is incorrect! Please check the size of Danubian Bulgaria, Byzantium and the Frankish Empire elsewhere, here they are shown incorrectly. (Danubian) Bulgaria is shown too tiny as for the time of its rise of power, and corresponds to the territory during the time of its establishing (around 681). Since its establishing (officially recognized by Byzantium in 681 AD), Danubian Bulgaria has grown constantly at the expense of Byzantium and the Avars, until its downfall in the second half of 10th century, which was caused by the Hungarian and Norse (Kievan Russian) attacks! In 850 AD, there was no state of Hungary! The Magyars lived in the north Black Sea region and could not move west because of the power of the Bulgarian state, until late 10th century! Neither was there any Kievan Rus, East Slavs were subjects to the Khazars, the Norse, or lived independently, but there was still no permanent state, especially not one bearing the name Rus(sia).
- This map is clearly labled 950, not 850. Your criticisms are therefore entirely inapplicable. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 13:20, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, Kingdom of Croatia is not shown at all. All of the borders are quite mucked up. It would be best to remove this image from wiki.
Your notion that accurate borders can be drawn at a time when cartography was largely a matter of the imagination is laughable. I have added the Croat polity although sources greatly differ on the extent of its power and independence. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 20:53, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
